As a longtime GR III user, I've been looking forward to the release of the GR IV. It's not quite the upgrade I'd hoped for, but there are also some nice surprises here, with improvements that weren't on my radar, and which improve the overall photography experience. There's a new 26MP sensor with better 5-axis stabilization, slimmer body, extra internal memory, faster start-up time and better battery life. However, build quality is still largely the same, meaning this is a camera you'll need to look after, there's still no built-in flash, and the fixed touchscreen isn't the easiest to see in bright light. For me, there isn't enough here to justify upgrading to what is a 20% pricier successor – but I do have my eye on the niche monochrome version that's in the pipeline.
